Nixie ( Anita Musca )
Anita Musca (AKA “Nixie”) was born in Perth, Australia, where she studied classical piano and classical voice from the tender young age of seven. Throughout her younger life she performed at various events and competitions all over Western Australia, winning scholarships and state awards for her music performances and skills. A particular highlight was being chosen for the inaugural “Western Star Spectacular” talent showcase, where she had the honour of performing a solo piece “Someone like you” from the Jekyll and Hyde musical at the Perth Concert Hall as the only junior solo singer chosen at the age of thirteen.
Having completed all her AMEB music exams in both piano and voice, Anita then began teaching vocal lessons and piano at various schools, colleges and music schools throughout Perth and South of Perth.
At the age of eighteen Anita gained entry into the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts ( WAAPA ) for her Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice).
During her studies at WAAPA, Anita performed as lead soloist for AKANNA Entertainment & soprano in their classical voice trio AKANNA at many corporate shows and corporate events in Perth, as well as various lead performances in the musical and opera space:
· Playing Helen of Troy in "Paris" the musical, a Western Australian Debut performance, written by Jon English and also having the pleasure to perform a piece from the musical live with Jon English.
· Playing the lead mezzo soprano role in the world-premier of “Rosetta” the Opera and other musical productions in the Perth region.
Despite the strong demand for her talents, Anita also found the time to record the first of her solo singer-songwriter singles "Drifting" at Cornucopia Studios. Ready to take on new challenges and broaden her horizons she would find herself deciding to take the next step in her music career and made the move to Melbourne, Victoria where she then became a new recording artist, Nixie.
Nixie’s musical background is like no other, being made up of an eyebrow-raising juxtaposition of rock and classical voice & piano that brought a new element to Melbourne’s dance music scene. Following a few promising initial performances, Nixie became heavily immersed in the underground dance music scene, where her Classical training and performance skills were been put to an impressive new use in a genre unaccustomed to such scintillating performances.
In recent times Nixie has found herself singing and co-writing with some of Australia’s most prominent producers in the breaks, techno and house genres, regularly being seen at some of the hottest events and festivals in Australia such as REVOLVER, BROWN ALLEY, LET THEM EAT CAKE FESTIVAL & SUBSONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL. Performing LIVE vocals alongside local producer/DJ’s, her seductive tones, harmonic melodies and unique voice has brought element of class to dance music, captivating audiences nation-wide and cementing her place as one of the most versatile and marketable performers.
